Please join us Thursday, May 26, 2016 for Creating Inclusive Campus Communities: Addressing LGBTQ issues at HBCUs for administrators and faculty concerned with changing HBCU campus climates on LGBTQ issues. We want to further the important work of nurturing queer activism and theorizing at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and your participation in the day’s events and beyond will help us get closer to achieving this goal.
The Spelman College Women’s Resource and Research Center is a space where issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality have always been necessary components of classroom discussion and the demand from students for courses and a campus environment that addresses these concerns are overwhelming, necessitating more faculty and staff support.
Our work with the Arcus Foundation five years ago found that in addition to strong curricular components, senior administrator support for LGBTQ issues among faculty, staff and students is essential. We are partnering with the Annie E. Casey Foundation to put on this symposium.
